  • Overview

    The mechanical engineer leads mechanical design projects to increase manufacturing and/or quality control capabilities.  This role entails working with associates from the Engineering, Production, Maintenance, R&D, and Quality Assurance to improve manufacturing tooling (equipment), controls, and processes through the use of mechanical design tools.  The engineer must be able to gather information from other associates, machine observation, and logical deduction to implement solutions for manufacturing problems.

    • Support production teams with investigation, identification, and design of mechanical or electromechanical systems for manufacturing solutions
    • Coordinate, direct, and lead engineering efforts for successful design, fabrication, implementation, and documentation of engineering projects
    • Create and monitor project timelines and costs
    • Design and/or procure equipment that meets company goals for maintenance, life expectancy, and machine downtime costs
    • Direct/supervise vendor installations
    • Work with vendors for resolution of equipment issues
    • Coordinating and communicating with electrical engineers project control and automation needs.
    • Work with the Maintenance department for identification of parts, preventative maintenance plans, and documentation to maintain implemented equipment
    • Coordinate with the R&D department for development and implementation of engineering machine trials.
    • Support the Production department during R&D and Engineering machine trials.
    • Direct support for production & maintenance teams on an as needed basis (machine function & troubleshooting).


    The position will demonstrate the following competencies:

    • Understanding and abiding by all safety rules, polices, and procedures
    • Strong technical skills in materials, manufacturing, quality, and design
    • 2D and 3D drafting (AutoCAD and Solidworks) of mechanical designs to company standards
    • Understand industrial electronics and controls
    • Basic understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and fluid dynamics (industrial process vacuum)
    • The ability to troubleshoot using mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and general machine repair skills; and to determine and follow a plan to solve an issue
    • Ability to build accurate project costing and timelines
    • Ability to manage multiple projects
    • Ability to complete routine reports and communicating effectively
    • Ability to read and interpret documents (e.g., safety, work instructions, OEM manuals, operating /maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, etc.)


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Design or Associates degree with 4 years engineering experience
    • Manufacturing equipment design experience desired (not required)
    • Proficient use of 2D and 3D design software (AutoCAD and Solidworks preferred)
    • Able to work flexible hours during equipment installations or direct support needs
